Wednesday, Democrats took action and registered new citizens to vote.  Here are some impressions from a few who attended:

The New Citizens' Ceremony was filled with diverse individuals from all around the world sharing an incredible milestone together. It's an amazing experience to see nearly 1,000 new American citizens celebrate their new status, a privilege that many of us take for granted every day. The crowd piled out of the Memorial Auditorium with all the rights and privileges of an American citizen, including the right to vote. Volunteers from the Democratic Party worked hard to ensure that any new (or old) citizen had the opportunity to register to vote--and from the look of the voter registration tables, many did. The desire of so many to participate in the Democratic process really embodies the 4th of July spirit. The pride of being an American and the optimism for wonderful things to come is something shared by all citizens, old and new, but sometimes it takes seeing the happiness and hope in 900 new citizens' faces to remind us not to take our Democracy for granted.

I had never been to a voter registration drive before today, let alone one for new citizens.  It was great seeing the overwhelming joy the new citizens and their families had on their faces.  People were hugging, laughing, posing for photos and waving American flags.  The voter registration drive went extremely well.  People of all different races, religions and nationalities registered as Democrats to take the first steps in the voting process.  It emphasized for me how lucky we are as Americans to have the right to vote and the importance of taking an active roll in making sure others have the opportunity to participate as well.  The part I enjoyed the most was when Thomas Jefferson read the Declaration of Independence.  For me, it underscored the ideals the founders set out for this nation and the importance of living up to them.  It made me realize that it is only by taking part in these events that we as Democrats can make sure America gets back on track.

Patriotism shined in Downtown Sacramento's Memorial Auditorium today. Red, white, and blue glimmered outside the auditorium from posters, necklaces, and flags. Witnessing this day was refreshing. I saw the joy in the eyes of new citizens, the pride in their families congratulating them, and the hope for a better future in the words of everyone. Holding up the sign saying, "Democrats Making History" around USA's newest citizens was energizing. I felt like I had gone back to the roots of what America was founded on.

Now that you've seen some other Democrats in action, get involved!  Click here to find out how.

In the meantime, here are some more pictures from the event:
